This is a video of Canadian journalist Melissa Fung, who was recently rescued in Afghanistan. She describes her month-long captivity here.

This article describes the war by Nigeria's insurgents against that country's oil industry, including the kidnapping of foreign oil workers, and the implications for companies wanting to work in Iraq.

Personal stories of the hostages that we know about

If you are there during the live show, but will need to click on the orange "Click to Listen" box. Sometimes if you experience audio problems, as in no audio, a simple refresh will solve the problem.

Update on Prayer Schedule

I am taking the liberty to reprint Pastor Ed's comment on a post below so that everyone can be sure to see it. He is speaking about the sign-ups for prayer times on the group calendar:
It looks like we have about 6 slot per day taken. 25% of the way there! 6 more and we will be half way to our goal....

....we can do it, I know we can!

Pastor Ed

As Pastor Ed notes in his introductory post below, signing up for an hour does not mean that you have to pray for the entire hour. Instead, it is a way of seeing that prayer is continually being lifted to Heaven every hour of the day on behalf of the hostages for whom we are praying.

Thank you so much for your support in this effort!

Let Me Introduce Myself

Hello everyone - My name is Pastor Ed Boston, aka Cyber Pastor, and I'm honored to be the Chaplain for Pray for the Hostages. I've wanted to write this post for over a week now, but my laptop has been/is being worked on so it has had to wait.

When Vicki asked if I would serve along with her, Matt, and Wyatt, I was excited to be a part of such a fine group of people, but told her I would like a few days to pray about taking on another commitment.

I pastor a small church in south central Indiana, am the campus Chaplain for the Adult Services branch of an extension site of a Christian University, the Chaplain for the local police department, on-call Chaplain once a month at the closest hospital, I am an Ambassador for the Presidential Prayer Team, blog regularly, and my wife and I host a Blog Talk Radio program each Monday through Friday night.

Now you see why I wanted to pray about another commitment.

However, when praying I kept thinking about what a need there is for "Prayer for the Hostages". Vicki didn't know it, but she had hit my soft spot and that is prayer. I knew I had to join forces with this group.

Right now, I'm working on a training session for those who are part of this group and want to participate. For now, I would suggest a couple of things that maybe you are already doing but if not, please consider it.

1) Take a time-slot to commit a specific time where you will pray for those who this group was founded to pray for. You don't have to pray for an entire hour, but wouldn't it be awesome to fill up every time slot 24-hours a day, every day of the year.

2) Utilize the list of the hostages, and pray for each person - by name - at least one time a week, more if you can. It doesn't have to be a specific time, and no one has to know you are doing it but God and yourself.

Please let me know if there is any way I can help you personally. You can contact me at
pastoredboston@sbcglobal.net .

May God Bless you, and may He especially be with each person we are praying for!

Pastor Ed

Prayer of the Day 9/20/08

Today's verse: Psalm 31:2

Turn your ear to me, come quickly to my rescue; be my rock of refuge, a strong fortress to save me.

Let us pray:

Lord God, you have come to protect the helpless, defend the oppressed, and to set the captives free. We lift up these hostages to your care: defend them, protect them, and in your time rescue them from their captors. Give them strength to endure their ordeal, and give them a sense of peace that can only come from you. Comfort their families and loved ones, and give them perseverance and hope until the day when they are blessedly reunited. All this we ask in your holy Name. Amen.

Welcome to Pray for the Hostages

Welcome! This blog is intended to serve as a resource and activity center for the Pray for the Hostages group. Here you will find links to online prayer sites, opportunities to participate in individual or group activities, and Bible study resources. Over the next few weeks we will be launching a number of projects that I hope everyone will consider taking part in.

If you are on Facebook, please check out our Pray for the Hostages group there. For the latest news, updates and background information on the hostages and hostage-related issues, please visit my blog Not Ready for my Burqua.

Thank you for your support. We have a big job ahead of us, but with God anything is possible. Let's pray until all the hostages are home.
